Wednesday's ramblings

Where did the past 2 weeks go? Our time has been zipping by and it seems we have been to dr. appt. and to ball games!

Wednesday, May 11, our middle grandson, Bryson "graduated" from Pre-school. He will attend Public School next fall with his older brother at Pauline Central. I know he is so excited about that! It was a cute ceremony! Bryson is usually pretty outgoing but on occasions like this he is pretty shy!

Saturday, May 15, was Bryson's early birthday party since his birthday was during the week we celebrated with him on Saturday afternoon with family and lots of food to eat and of course presents for his 5th birthday!

Friday, May 21st was Erin's birthday so I baked a cake and we went over to their house for supper! It was a nice evening and we enjoyed it very much! It is hard for them to take our Little Miss out to supper as she is at that age where she can't sit still very long! :) haha!!! so...it's easier at home!

Saturday we traveled to Overland Park south of KC for Brayden's baseball tourneyment.... they won both games that day so away we went again on Sunday for another 2 games! They ended up winning the tourneyment with first place! The team is working really well together and they have fun! It has been so much fun watching them play!

Monday, I had an Upper GI test done and came home and slept for most of the day ..... got up and ate something and then went to watch Bryson play his first baseball game of the year! He was so excited and did a great job! Then 20 minutes later we watched Brayden play too..... they won that game also! He is on a roll! The tests were clear except for a small polyp in my stomach that she sent in and didn't think it was anything to worry about.....

Tuesday, at noon I went to Brayden's school and ate lunch with him. It was a different feeling going back to a classroom again! I really enjoyed eating lunch with Brayden as he has been wanting me to do that since we got back the first part of May. I got to watch him at recess time also.

Today, Bill is helping Ryan's dad work on their pool and do some plumbing for the pool...so he is "working" today! I have had the day to myself and have gotten some things done I needed to do. We bought a new laptop last Friday and so I have finally gotten some time to add some things on the laptop that I used before. This laptop is sooo much faster than our other one it was time to get updated! Between the new Blackberry and this laptop I think we are "in the modern world again!"

Later this afternoon we will meet Brayden after school and then hang around to pickup Bryson. One of our birthday gifts for Bryson was a dinner of his choice and some shopping..... So far he has picked Planet Sub for supper or Red Lobster...... so stay tuned to see where we will go!

Until next time!

Still catching up May 3rd,2010

We hit the ground running last Monday as I had a dr. appt. that morning. It was time for my annual "stuff" and telling my dr. about my knee that has been hurting. I'm not sure what I did to it but I can't bend it very far or even get down on it.
I also had a big knot on the back of my knee while on our trip. So she scheduled a sonogram that afternoon. Nothing showed up in the sonogram but it still hurt. So Tuesday am I scheduled an appt. to see a Orthopedic dr. in a week or so.

Monday evening we went to watch Brayden play baseball. The weather was windy and cool. His team won by 1 point.

Tuesday I had a hair appt in the afternoon...glad that is done for the month! We met Megan and Jeff at Verizon to look at phones and then they came out for supper. It was great seeing them again.

Wednesday, I had a dental appt. for a checkup and then a pedicure. Brayden had May crowning at church so we went to that in the evening.

Thursday, we moved to a different site. When we came in last Sunday no one was around and so we found a spot we liked. We found out Monday that it was reserved for last weekend. With the rain coming we decided to move before the rain began. So we took everything down and then moved down about 5 spaces and set back up again.

Friday, was boob pinching day.... no further comment! The boys also came to spend the night with us so we picked them up about 5:30 and brought them back here to grill hot dogs for supper. It was so fun to have them and we really enjoyed spending time with them.

Saturday morning Bryson had ball practice so we met Ryan at the ball field and dropped the boys off. We had planned on going to church Sunday am and then fixing dinner on Sunday for everyone. But Bill needed to be here to cook Sunday so we decided to go to church Sat. afternoon. We took the boys with us and then went out to eat supper at Brayden's favorite place: Chili's. :) They were so dressed up at church and so good. Such handsome little men they are!

Sunday, the kids all came over along with Dennis/Stephanie and boys for dinner. It was cold and windy..... but we ate outside and then everyone ended up inside for rest of the afternoon! We had a great Mother's Day with them all ..... I feel blessed for them all!

Monday,(hey, I'm catching up!--yesterday) it rained all day and we pretty much stayed home except for taking my vacuum cleaner over to have it fixed. I have cleaned and we got the laundry finished for the week!

Tuesday,.... it has taken quite a while to catch you up on our travels the past month but I hope you have enjoyed looking at the pictures! We really enjoyed ourselves and glad to share our pics!

Until next time! --hopefully it will be shorter this time!

Region 3 Rally in Vidalia, La

We made the whole 70 mile trip on Sunday morning without any problems and arrived around noon.Vidalia, Louisiana is located right at the Mississippi River across from Natchez, Miss. We were parked facing the Mississippi River so we could watch the barges traveling down the river.

The barges were huge and sometimes we saw 2 tugboats together pushing the barges down the river.

One reason for getting to Vidalia early before the rally began was to drive part way up the Natchez Trace Parkway. What a disappointment! We drove up some of it on Sunday afternoon...It is a scenic drive and there are some posting's along the way of the route. We had planned on driving a good part of it on Monday but after driving a few miles on Sunday we changed our minds.

Monday we drove up to Vicksburg, Miss. to visit the Civil War Historic Site. This is the site preserved where the Battle of Vicksburg took place in 1861-1865. It is a gorgeous place and so much history took place there. Larry bought a CD which we used in the park and explained each memorial and historic site as it occured. We all really enjoyed the day. The drive was a 16 mile drive but it took us about 3-4 hours driving and stopping to see everything.

The above pictures were from the Historical site of a cannon and the only Kansas memorial at the site. The site is a very very hilly site and we wondered how they fought with so many trees and hills to manuever the cannons around.

The above pictures were some of the cannons around and a tunnel that they dug so as not to go over the hills to be seen. The boat was built to sail up the Miss. River to bring supplies and was shot on its side.

We also stopped at a Coke museum in Vicksburg. It was in a small building that house a working Coke fountain and memorabilia.

Tuesday morning we decided to drive south into Louisiana and view some Antebellum homes and cross a ferry. So that is what we did......

These homes were fantastic and just beautiful. The first one we toured was called Greenwood Plantation. It had 28 columns around it. The orginial owners were plantation farmers and were first cousins! Their dads were brothers and decided to keep the plantation in the family. They had 4 children. When we got there we were greeted by a lady who gave us the most mesmerizing talk about the history of the plantation. We could have listened to her all day... The house was spared in the Civil War but burned later. The only thing left standing was the columns. Someone bought it and restored it to what it is today. A man bought it and then refinished it and is living in the 3rd story of the house. It is his business to have tours and he had a bed and breakfast adjacent to the house. The house had been in the movie "The North and South". We all just loved that house and the history behind it. The drive up to the house was so beautiful with the trees and moss hanging from the trees.

Next we went to another Plantation house called the Audobon Historical Site. This home was where Audobon painted pictures of birds. The house had many original paintings there. There was even a turkey living on the grounds that strolled to greet visitors!
Audobon was hired to tutor the daughters of this house. He painted birds and also tutored the girls. He decided he would ask the master of the house for his pay. And the Master gave it to him. He also asked the Mistress of the house for pay... She found out that her husband paid him and fired him on the spot. His room was a very small room which was originally a kitchen. The house was of the Carribean architecture with the louved slats on the front of the house for breeze.

I'm not sure you can tell what the one picture is with the big wooden "fan" hanging from the ceiling. Most of the houses we were in had these huge wooden fan things hanging. We were told the younger male slaves would stand in a corner and move with a rope the fan over the dining table while they had guests. The chandeliers were beautiful along with most of the furnishings.

Our rally was fun and we got to visit with several people from Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. We had a Joker tourneyment one afternoon.
A Pet parade Saturday afternoon. That must be something some of the rallies are doing but so many of our group do not have pets anymore.

Thursday night of the rally we had our meal in the Vidalia Convention Center and were entertained by a Catholic Church from Vidalia. This was a small group of the choir that sung for us. They were fantastic! Such gospel singing! We had never seen anything like that before! I told Bill I could just imagine sitting around a slave campfire listening to them sing.... it was that good!

Saturday morning we decided to take a trolley around Natchez and see some of the sites. It was a great ride and the tour guide was great! We really enjoyed the ride and time it took. We then drove back to one of the house and toured it. It was under some construction and so we couldn't see all of it but it was as large as the first house we saw. Natchez has over 600 Antebellum homes in the area.

We left early Sunday am heading North. The weather was great all the way. We drove from Vidalia to Jonesboro, Arkansas the first day. We spent the night in a Sam's club parking lot.
After arriving at Carthage, Missouri the next day we parted with Larry/Sherry as they were going on to Wichita for the weekend.
Bill and I decided to stay in Carthage at Coachlight RV for the night as the rain was beginning to come in. We really just relaxed the rest of the night. Saturday it was still raining so we decided to spend another night and go to Topeka on Sunday. The weather was much better Sunday as we drove home.
We got to Topeka around 2 or so and came to Lake Shawnee.

Until next time!

Time to visit again!

I am waay to far behind to catch up but will try....we had a great time in Louisiana.....

When we left Topeka that evening we were south of Topeka and they were burning some fields .... spring burning in this part of the state. I am going to try to post pictures as I go so you can travel along with us but it may not work!

We met our friends Larry/Sherry DeWitt at Yates Center,Kansas for the evening at the small town park. So we left that next morning at 7:30 for our trip south. We drove to Kilgore, Texas that day and found Shallow Creek RV Park. A very nice park with full concrete pads. It was a nice place. We left and found a Mexican restaurant for dinner.

The next morning we left early and drove onto Marksville, Louisiana. We stayed at the Paragon Casino. It was a huge casino and they had a beautiful RV park behind it. Many Newmars were already there. Tuesday evening we drove around and found a place for dinner. Wednesday am we drove to Avery Island, La. to visit the Tabasco factory and the Acadia Museum. The Tabasco factory is the only one in the world. It was a very interesting place and we learned alot about how Tabasco is made.

The big vats is where they place the peppers, vinegar and put salt on top of the vats. The salt hardens and when the peppers and vinegar ferments it comes to the top through the salt. It takes about 3 years for it to ferment. The peppers are from South America.

Next we drove downtown to the Acadia Museum. It was very interesting as I thought all Louisianian's were Cajun... no....many are from an Island in Maine.... (Acadia National Park..ring a bell?) They migrated to Louisiana.

We got back and had a prerally dinner...
The Louisiana State Rally is very well known in the Newmar group for the fun time and food they have.. pure Cajun food! One evening our hosts prepared "Crayfish dinner"...... using a huge stainless steel vat they cooked 20 burlap bags of crayfish....aka....crawdads. I had never had these before and Bill said it was a long time ago when he had some. They are work to get the small amount of meat out. Crawdads are grown farm raised in rice beds. Farmers use the rice beds one year and the next year they may raise crawdads. We saw lots of rice beds/ crawdad beds along the fields road side. Along with the crawdads, we had new potatoes, corn on the cob, mushrooms. Not sure if I would like a steady diet of crawdads... rather have shrimp!

We also had a Jambayla night... it was very good although a little spicey for my taste. Bill loved it! We also had breakfasts and 2 meals at the Casino which were very good.

Sunday arrived quickly and we loaded up and left mid morning to drive 70 miles to Vidalia, Louisiana to our next camping rally.

Until next time!
