Happy Halloween!

It is Halloween and the leaves are really falling! We had about 1" of rain the other day and they really fell after that.

We haven't done much since going to Bartelsville on Wednesday and doing some shopping. It has a nice shopping area and of course we checked our the mall! It was a nice mall...very clean and stores where I shop! yea!!!! It is about 30 miles from here so its not too far.

Thursday was the rainy day of the week so we stayed home and watched it rain most of the day. I finally called the dr. office and had her prescribed some antibiotics for my coughing... they have finally helped and it isn't bothering me as much at all now..... just dealing with taking antibiotics and how they react to me! (No more needs to be said! :)

Friday I made some homemade sloppy joes for our "dinner" at 3.... we cleaned here again for the weekend. We just hung out until it was time to head out to the plant to work. Everyone leaves about the same time so it is like a mass exodus to go to the plant.
When we arrived, we were early so we were greeted by our "leader" and went to a room to wait until the others arrived. We were then showed how to check in and go through the turnstile and check in. We had been given our badges last Sat. at the meeting.
Everything we do is connected with our badges....they keep track of all transactions or anything with the badge. From my understanding we will scan our badge using a hand scanner before putting anything in bins we will use. Last night was basically orientation concerning safety, loss prevention, sexual harassment for about 4 1/2 hrs. We then walked to an area and did some safety school excerises. Then we walked to another breakroom and had a break. We will be having a break around 8 PM and then "lunch" -half hr.-at 10PM and another break at 1:30 AM I think. Everyone breaks and lunches at the same time and everyone is on the hussle to get there and leave at the same time.
That plant is huge ..... just huge! I have never done factory work and to me it was just amazing what all the items they have! We are allowed to walk the "green mile" area..... where it is taped green on the floor is our walkway....think safety.
After we took a short tour of the area around us we were checked out and left.

We only worked 5 hrs. last night arriving home about 10:20..... We went to bed around 11 as I was beginning to fall asleep in my chair and decided I was going to bed. I slept until about 8:30 this am Bill was up about 7 he said. So we will see how tonite goes. We will work our full 10 hrs. tonite and we are going to have "stow school" and then work on the floor. Stow school is stowing items that have been checked in in bins so the "pickers" --people who use scanners to find the items you have ordered and put them in a bin to send on down to finish the order. They have thousands and thousands of what I would call a library bin/shelving and that is where the items are in. So that is all I know right now.

There have been people leave already who for some reason or another didn't like what they were doing or what..... so if you don't like it you can leave but you may ruin your chance of working at this temp. agency again.

They have about 700 employed in the plant now and there is about 350 of us workkampers there with more to come. We have already been told after Thanksgiving be prepared to work longer time. That is when everything will really gear up until the week before Christmas.

We may not work too hard tonite either ...our "ambassador" told us last night he was dressing up for tonite so it may not be much going on tonite! could be interesting!
So that is about all I know for today and how our first evening went.

Stay tuned and have a Happy Halloween!

Monday evening

It has been an uneventful last few days around here..... we have been working around and on the coach in between doing absolutely nothing!

Saturday morning we spent most of the day around here and just relaxed..I am still not back to "almost normal" for me so I spent most of the day on the couch. We went to our meeting at 6 to meet some of the workkampers and get our assignments. We will be working Friday,Saturday,Sunday and Monday nights from 5 PM to 3:30AM. We will be off Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday all day. That is the same schedule our friends are on now. After November 8 we will work 4 11 hour days and maybe 5. Their numbers or orders are already increased 20% from last year and they expect more this year. We begin on Friday night for a "short night".... 10PM then begin with longer nights on Sat.

After our meeting Bill and I went to the Mexican place and had dinner. We visited with another couple we met earlier who are working on days.

Sunday, we went to church and came home and had some lunch. More naps were taken and Bill watched football most of the day. We decided to go to Sonic for supper and also stopped to get some ice cream at Braum's..... I made a cake yesterday afternoon and my microwave worked great!

Today, I cleaned the inside of the coach while Bill washed and and wiped down the outside. He washed windows again. We had the honey wagon stop by late this afternoon for our "weekly" dumping! :)

We are planning on going to Bartelsville on Wed. with our friends to do some shopping..... I'm making my list to stock up..... not much of a choice around here and the grocery prices are higher than in Topeka for sure!

My coughing is still here but not near as bad as it was...... the extra days we have this week have helped that.

The grandkids are doing better I guess. Erin had a ruptured eardrum and is half hearing. Bryson got some antibiotics for his ear infection. I hope all the sickness will clear up soon...... We are so proud of Erin receiving a promotion of Supervisor! She has really worked her way up with Blue Cross/Blue Shield!

Well, that about does it for this time....
Until next time!

2 posts in one day!

We are in Coffeyville and I will continue my "sick saga"........ haha!!!

We got here around 1:30 Wednesday afternoon and were greeted by our friends Dennie and Karen who have been here a week working already! It was great to see them again!

We found a place to park in Walter Johnson RV Park in Coffeyville.... it is an overflow site but we are on gravel and our elec. so far is great! We have good water pressure but we will be sharing water with 11 other sites if they all fill up. So far only 3 people are here at this overflow area. We will have to probably fill our water tanks up and use the water pump when that happens and when it gets colder anyway. The other RV parking areas are gravel but lower and they are swimming. in their areas when it rains...... we are high and dry here..so this isn't so bad at all. We will have the honey wagon coming by 3 times a week to dump our tanks..... it doesn't cost us anything so this is working out well so far.

After we got set up we rode with Dennie and Karen to look around Coffeyville and find something to eat..... we found a Mexican place and had a good meal there..... we were so exhausted as having to get up early at Erin's and then sleeping on the couches that night before.

Thursday we got around and had some lunch and then they rode with us to Independence to take our 'tests' for Amazon......it wasn't a difficult test at all...we had about 10 pictures of books, CD's, DVD's to find the author, title or what it was to look at. Then we had the "pee test"..... I figured all the meds I had been on might affect the results but it came out clean. So I guess we passed with flying colors! We have a "social" tomorrow at 6 and then find out our shifts times etc..... stay tuned!

After we were finished with that we made a Walmart run and came back to Coffeyville. Independence is about 20 miles away and it wasn't a long drive. We dropped off Dennie and Karen and came home.....
We fixed some dinner and I crashed on the couch early last night and was in bed by 9 after sleeping on the couch most of the evening...I missed Survivor! darn!!!

I am still dealing with this "stuff" I've got but am taking some meds that are beginning to loosen up this stuff in my bronchial tubes.....why always when I get a cold it settles there? The coughing is the worst and I have taken Robitussin and cough drops like crazy...along with lots of water to keep my throat moist. Bill fixed me a hot toddie last night and it helped a lot.

This morning, we got around and went to the laundrymat to do a few loads of laundry. I had most of it done when we left Topeka but wanted to wash sheets, etc.
We met a couple at the laundrymat who are Amazon people too who were from Surprise, AZ. and knew a couple we worked with at El Mirage! Small world!!!! We enjoyed visiting with them... They have a lot at Happy Trails RV Pak in Surprise.... We will see them at the social tomorrow night.

After laundry was finished we ate lunch at the BBQ place here and came home. Bill was looking for some valve stems for the truck...guess we will have to go to Bartelsville where there is a RV dealership.

We have a very pretty spot... out the backside of the RV is a big park with a huge playground equipement. We are parked on a fairgrounds area so lots of buildings off to one side. Lots of trees and squirrels running around. But we would love to see the sun for day or 2..... it has been dreary for over a week or more! It's about time to see the sun! Maybe tomorrow!

The grandkids are all back to their "day spots" today and feeling better from what Megan said this am. She had to go to Emporia today for a meeting. Erin/Ryan will be home this evening.... Erin told Megan she is seeing a dr. tomorrow....

Well, that about catches us up for another time...... I will try to post more often now that we are almost beginning to work...so many have asked about our work...stay tuned so you can "read my whine!"....... I'm sure my leg muscles will be crying loud and clear! haah!!!!

take care
Until next time!

A week of babysitting with sick grandkids.....

It has been a week since we left our last workkamping position in Wichita. We left early Wed. morning hating to leave our friends! We met Jeff and Megan for fried chicken at the Topeka Steak House for dinner. Erin's couldn't come as our oldest grandson was sick...that was the beginning of our week..... We left bright and early by 6:30 AM Thursday am and went to their house to watch Brayden. He was running a temp and coughing.....also not keeping anything down with a headache......
Most of the day he slept but we finally got him to drink some Pedilight....he began to keep something down at least... if only crackers and some 7-UP..... an old standby for me anyway...it always works! We spent the day and early evening with him until his Mom got home. Ryan left that morning for a week's conference in Florida.

Friday morning, we were back at Erin's and had Bryson also...he was running a fever and coughing. Later in the morning,... he was feeling better and Brayden was beginning to feel better. Bill had a dr. appt. in the afternoon. Erin had a hair appt. after work so we were late getting home again.

Saturday ...we spent most of the day at home as I felt like the crud attacking me! I woke up with the gurgling cracking noise in my throat...bronchial tubes.... where is always goes when I have a cold ..... Late Sat. afternoon we went to get Brayden as we were celebrating his birthday from us by going out to dinner and letting him buy his own Birthday gift. He chose to go to Walmart and get 2 DSS games. We went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner. Yummy!!!!! He didn't eat much...he still wasn't back up to his normal self yet.

Sunday.... we didn't even get out of the house at all.....I stayed in all day long and slept.... Bill was in and out and went to the store for a few things.

Monday, we were back at Erin's early in the morning as Brayden had to get the bus at 8 and someone needed to be there to make sure he got on the bus ok. Bryson spent the day with us again as he was coughing and not feeling good. Erin had a touchup appt. with her hair on Monday after work so we were late getting home again.
Brayden went to school and Lauren to the babysitter. I had a dr. appt. in the afternoon and she reassured me I had a bronchial infection and to continue taking what I was taking...
It was a pretty nice day Monday in Topeka although windy.

Tuesday, everyone headed to their correct day destinations..... we went to Erin's early in the morning to get Brayden off to school and then came back to the RV park. I had to do a blood test that morning also. We spent the day working around the coach and then mid afternoon we got a call from Erin that Bryson had a temp and we had to go get him. So off we went to pick him up and stopped to get Lauren in the meantime..... she had a runny nose when we got her.... by the time we got home she was fairly warm....we had planned spending the night at Erin's anyway...as she was going to catch a plane to meet Ryan in Florida on Wed. and come home Friday with him. Brayden had basketball practice at 6 PM so Bill took him to do that and Erin ran to Walmart to get a few last minute things after dinner. She was sick by then too.....but she went anyway.

Wednesday morning early (5 AM) we got up when Erin was getting ready to leave and Lauren woke up crying.... she was up a little bit and then went back to bed. WE got the boys up and around and Megan came by that time to take Bryson to school but he was staying home today as he wasn't feeling good and couldn't go back to school until at least 30 hours without a temp. Megan stayed with the kids after we left on Wed. morning. Lauren went to daycare and Megan took Bryson to Ryan's parents for the day. Megan left work around 10 and went back to get Bryson and picked up Lauren too as she was running a slight temp...... we hated leaving all the kids when they were sick but things worked out well..... they are all doing somewhat better as far as I know now!

We left Topeka around 10ish to head to Coffeyville....... the weather cooperated and it only misted on us a few times on the way down here...it is about 2 1/2hrs.south of Topeka.

Until next time!

Rainy evening in Wichita

Well, we are officially finished at USI RV park in Wichita..... we worked Sunday and Monday ..... so now we are done! It has been a busy summer and at times kind of trying but we made it through in good shape. We will miss our friends here in the park but we will see them again soon.

It's so strange to know that in 2 1/2 years we have met so many wonderful people and our whole lives have changed by beginning our "adventure" of RVing.... the places we have been and the things we have seen and done.... not to even mention the people we have met and wished we didn't! haha!!! I think that is why Bill and I love this type of living...we have always loved to travel and we feel so blessed to be able to do this at least for quite a while yet we hope.

Since I have last written we have gone to Topeka the last 2 Saturday's to watch the grandson's ballgames. Last Saturday was our oldest grandson's birthday and so we spent the night and went to watch Bryson play 2 soccer games. It was freezing cold and he was such a trooper.... so cute! After Bryson's games we celebrated Brayden's 8th birthday! Can't believe he is that old! I think the only warm one was Lauren who was bundled and wrapped up like a bug.... she didn't complain about being so bundled up!
We left mid afternoon to come back to Wichita as the park here was having a chili feed for the workkampers.... we had a small number come but we had a nice visit anyway.

This morning, we went to the chiropractor for the last time here for an adjustment and then to Walmart. When I turned on my iron this am it began dinging like a bomb and began to smell hot wires..... quickly turning it off it continued to smell stronger..... luckily I just didn't let it set there and have it plugged in and leave the way I do sometimes..... we may not have had a coach when we got home!
Anyway...a trip to Walmart to get another iron and a few other things. Our other workkamper couple came for lunch while they had to work.

This afternoon we were actually able to relax and "nap" a little bit ..... we went to dinner with our friends, John/Patsy who live here in the park at least for the summers anyway. We hope they are able to make it to South Texas next month. We have really enjoyed spending time with them this summer.

We will leave here in the morning to go to Topeka for about 1 week and it is full of dr. appt. and other "things" planned..... this next week will go fast too I"m sure!

So for the last time from Wichita!--have a good evening! I sure hope the weather straightens out and the sun decides to come out and stay awhile!

Until next time!

It's been that long!

Good evening!

I can't believe its been that long ago since I've written! It seems we have been busy reading other blogs and doing other things so I'm not on the internet much in the evening's so this blog gets put on the "back burner!" for sure! My apologies! We are doing fine and winding up our time here very quickly! We only have a week and a half left here in Wichita. With only 4 more working days left it won't be long at all. Although our calendar is so full with doing something every day until we leave I hope things will continue to go smoothly.

Since I have written last we have made a quick trip to Hays so I could get a cortisone shot in my foot. My foot has quit hurting. We stopped for lunch with our friends in Great Bend and had a nice visit with them.

The girls and little ones drove down for lunch on Sunday, Sept.13. It was great to see them and we had lunch before they returned home. They left mid afternoon so the 2 smaller ones could nap on the way home. We had company on Sunday, Sept. 13 for the week before our camping rally... Bob and Jackie came and we were so glad to see them and spend time with them. They stayed until Thursday when we all left for our monthly camping rally in Council Grove. What an interesting town! So much history was there! We really enjoyed scouting around the town and finding the historical points there. The town has really worked hard to maintain the originality of the town. Did you know it was one of the first stops on the Santa Fe Trail?

Tuesday, Sept. 22 we went to Salina so Bill could get a coritsone shot in his knee. We had lunch with my aunt and my brother,Rick and sister-in-law Gail which was a quick but great visit.... I forgot Rick and Gail had to go back to work...lunchtime just went too quickly!..we may not see them until spring now. .... Oh yea...we worked about 10 days in September! We liked working the 2 days on and then 4 off.

Bill and I went to a botanical gardens here in Wichita a week ago. It was really neat and alot of the flowers were done for the year but so many mums and fall flowers were still blooming...so pretty. We really enjoyed the butterfly gardens and didn't realize there were so many different kinds of butterflies! From large swallowtails to tiny smaller ones!
I also wanted to go to the zoo here but we may not make it.....

Last Friday, Oct. 2nd we drove with our friends John/Patsy to some former camping club friends who live in Hesston. We really enjoyed visiting with them and seeing their beautiful home in the complex where they live. They live in an Independent living community which is a duplex... We really miss seeing them in our club but they have sold their motorhome. We were glad to hear they are planning on coming to the valley this January so hopefully we will see them again.

Last Saturday, we drove to Topeka to see Brayden play flag football and also Bryson has a soceer game. It was on the same sports complex and the weather was great although a little chilly. The boys did great and it was fun to watch them play. They both are getting so big! Of course the wind was blowing which made it cooler. We went to Erin's for hamburgers and then we headed to Lawrence to take some things to Megan's for storage. We drove back to Wichita from their house. Jeff has bronchitus and we decided we didn't need him to share! :)

We worked around here today and got some groceries as we will be working tomorrow and Tuesday.

The month of September really flew by fast! Fall is here....the leaves are turning color and falling from the trees here in the park. We plan to leave here on Oct.14th to go to Topeka for a week.

That about catches us up for now ....
hang with me.... I will be writing more now in the evening's..
I have finished a sweatshirt jacket and put my sewing machine away for now.... still more projects to finish but no time for now!

Until next time!
